What the $1,020 Per-Machine Bitcoin Mining Hosting Onboarding Fee Covers
The one-time $1,020 per-machine onboarding fee at Fathom Labs is a fixed-cost bundle covering everything required to get your miner from origin to operational at our Southeast Texas facility: insurance, installation, shipping coordination, and import duty handling.
It is paid once at signup — not recurring. After onboarding, your only ongoing cost is the $0.07/kWh electricity rate.

The Four Components of the Onboarding Fee
1. Hardware Insurance
Your hardware is insured during transit to our facility and while it is operating on-site. ASIC miners are expensive equipment — a Whatsminer M70S represents a significant capital investment. Insurance coverage protects against loss or damage in transit and at the facility.
2. Installation
Physical installation at our Southeast Texas facility includes: racking your hardware in an appropriate bay (air-cooled or hydro-cooled), PDU cabling, network cable runs, initial firmware check, mining pool configuration (pointed to your pool and wallet), and a functional health check to confirm the machine is hashing before we consider onboarding complete.
3. Shipping Coordination
We manage the logistics of getting your hardware from its origin to our Southeast Texas farm. For hardware purchased directly from us, this includes outbound fulfillment. For client-supplied hardware, we coordinate inbound receiving. Shipping coordination covers freight management, tracking, and receiving at our facility.
4. Import Duty Handling
Whatsminer hardware is manufactured in China. Importing into the United States requires customs clearance and payment of applicable import duties. The onboarding fee covers this process — particularly relevant for international clients in Taiwan and Hong Kong who are sourcing hardware for deployment at our US facility.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the $1,020 per-machine bitcoin mining onboarding fee cover?
The $1,020 per-machine one-time onboarding fee at Fathom Labs covers four components: (1) hardware insurance during transit and at the facility; (2) installation labor — physical racking, cabling, pool and wallet configuration, and initial health check; (3) shipping coordination — logistics management from origin to our Southeast Texas facility; and (4) import duty handling for hardware shipped internationally.
Is the $1,020 per-machine onboarding fee a recurring charge?
No. The $1,020 per-machine onboarding fee is a one-time charge paid at signup. After onboarding, the only recurring cost is the $0.07/kWh electricity rate.
What do I pay at signup for bitcoin mining hosting at Fathom Labs?
At signup, you pay three items: (1) the one-time $1,020 per-machine onboarding fee; (2) first month's electricity in advance, calculated from your hardware's power draw × 720 hours × $0.07/kWh; and (3) one month's electricity deposit, the same amount, held as a reserve. After that, ongoing billing is only the monthly electricity charge.
Does the onboarding fee cover hardware purchase?
No. The onboarding fee covers the services required to get your existing hardware operational at our facility — insurance, installation, shipping, and import duty. It does not include the hardware itself. You purchase the Whatsminer hardware separately (either from us or bring your own) and the onboarding fee covers everything needed to get it running at our Texas farm.
Why is there an import duty component in the onboarding fee?
Many Whatsminer ASIC miners are manufactured in China and shipped internationally. Import duty and customs clearance is required when hardware enters the United States. The onboarding fee includes handling these import logistics so clients — particularly international clients in Taiwan and Hong Kong — do not need to manage the customs process themselves.
