What Does Bitcoin Mining Hosting Cost Include?

A bitcoin mining hosting rate is more than an electricity bill. A quality all-in rate covers power delivery, cooling, physical infrastructure, network connectivity, and ongoing monitoring. At Fathom Labs, $0.07/kWh is truly all-in — no separate line items for any of these components.

Understanding what your hosting rate includes (and what it does not) is essential for comparing providers and calculating total cost of ownership.

What the $0.07/kWh Rate Covers

1. Power (Electricity)

The electricity your ASIC consumes to hash. This is the largest and most variable component — it scales directly with your hardware's wattage and uptime. At $0.07/kWh, a 3,500W Whatsminer M70S running 24/7 costs approximately $176/month in electricity.

2. Cooling

Bitcoin ASIC miners generate substantial heat. Facilities must provision cooling infrastructure — air cooling (fans, HVAC, airflow management) for standard machines, and liquid/hydro cooling loops for hydro-capable miners like the Whatsminer M73. Our Southeast Texas facility supports both cooling modes. Cooling overhead is included in the all-in rate.

3. Racking and Physical Infrastructure

Physical installation in the facility: mounting your hardware in rack positions, power distribution units (PDUs), cabling, and facility overhead costs (building, security, fire suppression). These infrastructure costs are bundled into the all-in rate.

4. Network Connectivity

Your miner needs reliable internet access to communicate with your mining pool and submit shares. Network uptime directly affects your effective hashrate — connectivity downtime means lost earnings. This is included in the all-in rate.

5. Monitoring and Maintenance

24/7 NOC coverage to monitor miner health, respond to hash rate drops, reboot machines as needed, and escalate hardware issues. This operational layer is included in the all-in rate — you do not pay separately for monitoring.

What Is NOT Included

  • Hardware purchase — you buy the ASIC separately (or ship in your existing hardware). Hardware is not included in the hosting rate.
  • One-time $1,020 per-machine onboarding fee — a separate, one-time charge covering insurance, installation labor, shipping coordination, and import duty. Paid once at signup. See the full onboarding fee breakdown.

Why "All-In" Matters When Comparing Providers

Not every hosting provider uses the same definition of their quoted rate. Some facilities advertise a low $/kWh electricity rate and then layer on separate charges for cooling overhead (typically 10–20% of electricity), management or monitoring fees, and network fees. The effective all-in rate at those facilities can be significantly higher than the headline figure.

When comparing providers, always ask: does the quoted rate include cooling overhead, monitoring, and network? At Fathom Labs, $0.07/kWh is the complete answer — no additional components.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a bitcoin mining hosting rate?

A quality all-in hosting rate includes: (1) electricity — the energy your ASIC consumes to hash; (2) cooling — the infrastructure to maintain safe operating temperatures (air-cooled or hydro-cooled depending on the machine); (3) racking and cabling — physical installation in the data center; (4) network connectivity — internet access for pool communication; and (5) monitoring — 24/7 NOC oversight of machine health. At Fathom Labs, all of these are included in the $0.07/kWh rate.

Are there separate fees for cooling in a mining hosting facility?

At Fathom Labs, no — cooling overhead is included in the all-in $0.07/kWh rate. Some facilities charge a separate cooling surcharge on top of a base electricity rate. Always ask whether a quoted rate is all-in or base-only before comparing providers.

What is NOT included in the hosting rate at Fathom Labs?

The $0.07/kWh ongoing rate does not include: (1) the hardware itself (purchased separately); and (2) the one-time $1,020 per-machine onboarding fee, which covers insurance, installation, shipping coordination, and import duty handling. After onboarding, the only recurring charge is the electricity rate.

Does Fathom Labs charge a management or performance fee?

No. Fathom Labs does not charge performance fees, management fees, or any percentage of mining output. You own 100% of your hardware's mining rewards. The only recurring fee is $0.07/kWh for electricity.
